JOHN F. WALVOORD (A.B., D.D., Wheaton College; A.M., Texas Christian University; Th.B., Th.M., Th.D., Dallas Theological Seminary), former president of Dallas Theological Seminary and editor of Bibliotheca Sacra, America's oldest theological quarterly, was recognized as one of the leading evangelical theologians in America and an authority on systematic theology and eschatology. His academic background and extensive travel in the Middle East greatly enriched his theological and eschatological studies. He authored numerous books on theology and biblical prophecy, including The Revelation of Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ Our Lord, and Daniel: The Key to Prophetic Revelation.

Detailed Commentary from Dispensationalist View w/Others' Acknowledged

This commentary on the Old Testament book of Daniel is noteworthy for its detail and its coupling of the author's dispensational interpretation with presentation and analyses of alternate interpretations and their inadequacies. But for the endtimes ("eschatology") novice, I'd suggest first reading Renald Showers' Daniel commentary, 'The Most High God,' since it's purpose does not include critiquing other views, but stays focused on a concise, readable, less overwhelming exposition of Daniel. (In case you're unfamiliar with Daniel altogether, Walvoord and Christians of dispensationalist theology consider Daniel to be the "Key to Prophetic Revelation" as title says, because Daniel chapters 2 and 7 give the broad panorama of Gentile kingdoms (including the final one to come), and most importantly, because Daniel chapter 9:24-27 tells of God's post-Babylonian captivity plan for Israel, including the upcoming 7-year period commonly referred to as "the tribulation," when the Antichrist reigns, and which is foundational for an understanding of the book of Revelation which details this period.)

To understand Daniel, not a specific interpretation of Daniel, read this book

The realm of biblical prophecy is filled with books pushing a specific interpretation of the author's favorite scriptures. This book is a welcome exception to that rule. Although the author unapologetically belongs to the dispensationalist school of thought, he is not determined to convince you of a specific interpretation within that school. He is not specifically pre or mid tribulational. He is not trying to inspire you with the soon coming of Christ. He is trying to interpret the book of Danial accurately and well. He accomplishes his purpose.

I read this book over 30 years ago, when I was a teenager, and it's tone and methodology has permeated my life every since. I am now a Bible teacher myself and have come back to this book when I wish to give an over-view of the book of Daniel to my students.

great read for any dream study enthusiast

i do my best to read as many dreaming themed pieces of literature that i can find, this being something like my 20-25th book on the topic so far. I very much appreciate the perspective given by the author in this book. Although i have been practicing and reading about conscious and lucid dreaming for 4 years now, i still encountered concepts and technique i had not yet been introduced too. If dream study and self growth is of interest to you, this book should not disappoint.

Conscious Dreaming Worked For Me

After years of searching for answers (and failing to find any) in the myriad of dream books and dream dictionaries out there to explain to me what I was experiencing every night I put my head to my pillow, I finally found the key : Robert Moss's "Conscious Dreaming". Themes from the book that resonated for me: A dream is not something to be dismissed as "just a dream". The universal archetypes are not necessarily applied to my dream-- the dreamer is the bottomline expert on what his or her dream means. We *do* go to other places, visit deceased loved ones, meet teachers, see past-present-future, receive information about our own health-----Moss validated for me what I was experiencing all along but was too afraid to acknowledge until his book reassured me that I was not the only one dreaming this way. "Conscious Dreaming" gave me simple tools and techniques to refine my process and keep track of my nightly travels. In practicing Moss's methods as outlined in this book (and the more advanced techniques in his others, "Dreamgates", and "Dreaming True") I have become so adept at dreaming that I have lead my own dreaming workshops based on these same techniques and have been able to lead many others to this fulfilling dream practice. It *is* a practice, and like any other fine art or sport you must exercise the muscles required regularly and it can take time to see the desired results. For me, reading "Conscious Dreaming" was all it took to unlock the mystery of my own dreaming. I highly recommend this book to any dreamer or anyone hoping to become one!

It can only be classified as a color by number IF you can see the numbers right?

you've got to be kidding me.... how is this a color by number? You can't even see the numbers - I even broke out the magnifying glass just trying to see if I could figure out what the colors were before deciding that instead of reducing my stress level it's elevating it. I admit I read other people's reviews and thought to myself 'how bad could it really be?' and since nobody uploading any pictures to give me a guideline of how hard they really are to see I went ahead and bought it... anyway, just to help out anyone else who might be thinking about buying this color by number book I took some CLOSE UP pictures of small sections of the design so that you'll have a better understanding of what the issue is... now if you can see them clearly then good luck... and for anyone who I've saved from a lot of frustration... you're welcome!

PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY

PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!! This is the very worst coloring book I own, and I have purchased over 100 books. The numbers are soooo tiny, I can even see them with a magnifying glass. And when I finally go a bigger magnifying glass, the numbers were so sloppily printed I have NO idea what the numbers say.....Additionally, I don't particularly like backgrounds, and nearly EVERY page is covered in a background. This is a seriously stupid book. I should ask the author for my money back, but I've already torn it apart in an increasingly desperate attempt to see what I'm supposed to be coloring. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE LOVELY COVER. THIS BOOK IS TERRIBLE. And not just plain terrible. I'm talking fancy terrible. Terrible with raisins in it.

I have read several great golf books lately but this one really stood out

I have read several great golf books lately but this one really stood out. Once I opened it I could not put it down. The mental game in golf is the key to take your game to the next level. This book was that X factor that helped me understand why I was acting like such a hormonal teenager on the course and how to stop these bad habits. The methods have really helped me get better, but more importantly it helped me enjoy the game more. In fact, the first 18 holes after reading this was some of my best and most enjoyable golf ever- after 8 years of playing. I still had my outbursts, but I was conscious of them and recorded them. By the 10th hole, I was so in the zone I was really surprising myself with the accuracy, distance and a short game I didn't even know I had. What a feeling. Sure there were the "thats not what I expected" moments but they did not ruin the experience of a great round! Highly recommend this book. I immediately gave it to my best bud who had literally thrown his club 20 feet in the very same game. I said read this it will change your golf life and our playing relationship.

not bad, but not as good as Golf is Not a Game of Perfect

This and Golf is Not a Game of Perfect by Bob Rotella were recommended reading for improving the mental aspect of golf. Although this book had interesting tidbits of information I just didn't get as much out of it as the other book. The two books had similar information, but Rotella's book was an easier read with examples and practice ideas to prepare yourself to perform. If you are trying to become the best golfer you can then it's a must read, but if you are trying to decide on this or Rotella's. Choose the other.

About the Author
Peter Gn�dig graduated as a physicist from Roland E�tv�s University (ELTE) in Budapest in 1971 and received his PhD degree in theoretical particle physics there in 1980. Currently he is a researcher (in high energy physics) and a lecturer in the Department of Atomic Physics at ELTE. Since 1985 he has been one of the leaders of the Hungarian Olympic team taking part in the International Physics Olympiad.

Gyula Honyek graduated as a physicist from E�tv�s University (ELTE) in Budapest in 1975 and finished his Ph.D. studies there in 1977, after which he stayed on as a researcher and lecturer in the Department of General Physics. In 1984, following a two-year postgraduate course, he was awarded a teacher's degree in physics, and in 1985 transferred to the teacher training school at ELTE. His current post is as mentor and teacher at Radn�ti Grammar School, Budapest. Since 1986 he has been one of the leaders and selectors of the Hungarian team taking part in the International Physics Olympiad.

Ken Riley read Mathematics at the University of Cambridge and proceeded to a Ph.D. there in theoretical and experimental nuclear physics. He became a Research Associate in elementary particle physics at Brookhaven, and then, having taken up a lectureship at the Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge, continued this research at the Rutherford Laboratory and Stanford; in particular he was involved in the discovery of a number of the early baryonic resonances.

Challenging problems for honors physics students

The problems are generally at the level of International Physics Olympiad competitions or higher, and are very suitable for freshman/sophomore honors physics courses. The problems are tough and very interesting, with many unique and unusual twists, guaranteed to challenge even the best students preparing for physics competitions at the senior high school and undergraduate levels. I would guess that those sitting for PhD qualifying exams will have difficulties with some of the problems. The surprise is that the solutions require no more than elementary calculus, although lots of original critical thinking and insight are necessary.

Gnadig and Honyek are both leading the Hungarian physics olympiad teams for many years, while Riley is a Fellow of Clare College, University of Cambridge. Riley had a previous equally interesting but slightly less difficult problem book called "Problems for Physics Students," covering quite a few interesting Cambridge Natural Sciences Tripos and entrance exam type questions for the best UK high school students.

If you are a physics buff, you will derive countless hours of enjoyment (and frustration - if you resist the temptation of looking at the provided solutions too soon), plus it will bring your understanding of classical physics to a deeper level.

A few other worthy physics problem books include Thomas & Raine's "Physics to a Degree" for undergraduates, and Dendy's "Cambridge Problems in Physics" for high school students aiming for Cambridge University entrance. The Russian books "Problems in General Physics" by Irodov and "Problems in Elementary Physics" by Bukhovtsev are very good too but they may be harder to find. An upcoming excellent (and tough) classical mechanics problem book is David Morin's Physics 16 course text at Harvard - still in its draft form but downloadable from Harvard website.

Great story to age-appropriately explain scoliosis to kids.

My 8 year old had a Mehta cast applied during his February vacation. He had never worn the cast at this school. When classes resumed, we gave his teacher a copy of Cole and the Crooked Flower to keep in the room. She read it that 1st morning & 20 kids (10 boys & 10 girls) were absolutely engaged with the story and LAUGHING at the different sections. It helped make their understanding of scoliosis and casting very age appropriate and helped them realize that my son was the same little boy, just trying to fix his crooked. Highly recommend the book!

Then this wonderful book was written

When my daughter was diagnosed with progressive infantile scoliosis there were no children's books to explain what was happening
to her spine, and how serial Metha casting was going to help her. Then this wonderful book was written, straight from a family who has
experienced everything first hand. It's wonderfully worded, easy for children to understand, FUN and my daughter asks me to read it over
and over again.

A great book for any child or sibling, with a message of patience, persistence and ingenuity.

Wonderful story of love for all children!

This is an absolutely darling tale about love and persistence. Cole is a little boy who won't give up on helping his crooked flower to grow straight. A perfect metaphor for parents to use to explain what the cast will do for their child with Progressive Infantile Scoliosis (PIS). The illustrations are beautiful as well. As a parent to a PIS child and a 'straight spine' child, I highly recommend it for both.
